AAEP Denver 2004

Dr. Allen presented his scientific paper entitled: Incidence and Severity of Abrasions on the Buccal Mucosa Adjacent to the Cheek Teeth in 199 Horses.

Utilizing a PowerPoint presentation Dr. Allen illustrated frequency & severity of buccal abrasions (holes in horses’ cheeks from sharp points) to a large audience following a Dentistry Panel attended by 1500 veterinarians.

According to some reports it is apparent that the three heavily horse populated states of California, Texas and Florida are favorably leaning toward utilizing qualified equine dental technicians.

Most recently in Texas the tables seem to be turning as politics lighten over controversial equine dentistry issues making it legal under specific conditions for qualified equine dental technicians to continue providing service.

At the open session of the Dentistry & Education Committee several veterinarians spoke in favor of qualified equine dental technicians, those opposed were in favor of only licensed techs working under veterinary supervision.

During the AAEP trade show at the booth for Harlton’s Equine Specialties, Dr. Allen demonstrated the Mitz pneumatic instruments for veterinarians interested in using power equipment in their practices.
