This patient has an incisor malocculsion referred to as an Underjet.

There are a wide variety of Incisor Malocclusions or abnormalities, most of which are corrected or helped through incisor reduction during the equilibration process.  Some of these cases may be considered severe and are the result of molar malocclusion, trauma, genetics, etc.  Each incisor malocclusion is treated individually taking the patient’s entire mouth into consideration.

Some of the common terms for abnormalities of the incisor line are parrot mouth, overbite, overjet, underbite, underjet, wedge, slant or diagonal mouth, overlong uppers or lower incisors, ventral curvature or smile and dorsal curvature or frown.

These terms do not fully describe the variety of all incisor malocclusions seen.  The appearance of Cribbing Lesions, Locked Mouth, Incisor Caps or baby teeth are among some other incisor abnormalities. Please refer to Incisor Reduction.  Why?  Under articles by Dr. Allen.
