These are some of the descriptions for molar malocclusions, imbalances or abnormalities in horse’s mouths. Over-long molars are Reduced during the equilibration process as well as removal of sharp points on all cheek teeth.  Routine dentistry every 6 months to 1 year is Recommended to Help prevent malocclusions from becoming life threatening.

Some of the malocclusions in this patient’s mouth above are severe steps, upper six hook (left), massive upper six with hook (right). Sharp points present on the outside of the uppers, inside of the lower arcades.

This would be considered a severe case but if this horse had not been examined these malocclusions wouldn’t have been found because there were no outward signs this patient needed dentistry.  If this horse had not had dentistry these malocclusions would have overpowered the opposing teeth resulting in unnecessary tooth loss and infection shortening this horse’s life.
